Thu Apr 24 10:27:18 UTC 2025: ## Tamil Nadu Minister Granted Time to Respond to Disqualification Plea

**Chennai, April 24, 2025** – The Madras High Court has granted until June 5th for the Tamil Nadu government and Forest Minister K. Ponmudy to respond to a public interest litigation (PIL) seeking the Minister’s disqualification from holding any constitutional post. The PIL alleges that Mr. Ponmudy made derogatory remarks against Saivites, Vaishnavites, and women.

The First Division Bench, comprising Chief Justice K.R. Shriram and Justice Mohammed Shaffiq, issued notices to both the Home Secretary and Mr. Ponmudy. The court will hear the case again on June 19th. During the hearing, the court also addressed objectionable statements made by the petitioner against Chief Minister M.K. Stalin in an additional affidavit, which the petitioner subsequently agreed to retract.
