**THANJAVUR, April 24, 2025** – A minor fire scare at the Government Rajah Mirasdar Hospital in Thanjavur on Thursday afternoon led to the precautionary evacuation of several pregnant women. Smoke billowed from an air conditioner unit in the Labour Ward, causing some patients to experience breathing difficulties.
Hospital staff quickly responded, shifting the affected patients to a nearby ward. Fire and rescue services confirmed the cause as an electrical short circuit in the air conditioning unit. The fire was extinguished swiftly.
As a precaution, pregnant women on the ground floor were also moved. Collector B. Priyanka Pankajam, who oversaw the rescue operation, confirmed that no injuries or serious complications resulted from the incident. Medical professionals have assessed all patients and confirmed their safety.
