**Bengaluru, April 24, 2025** – The High Grounds police in Bengaluru have filed a First Information Report (FIR) against the Karnataka BJP IT and social media cell for allegedly spreading defamatory content against Congress leader Rahul Gandhi. The complaint alleges that a social media post linked Gandhi’s recent foreign trip to a terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Kashmir.
The police have charged the IT cell members under sections 196 (promoting enmity between groups) and 353 (2) (public mischief through misinformation) of the Bengaluru City Police Act (BNS). KPCC spokesperson and chairman of the legal and human resources department, C.M. Dhananjaya, stated that the post aimed to damage Gandhi’s reputation and deflect attention from the BJP’s responsibilities. He further expressed concern that the post could incite societal division.
Police have indicated they will summon those involved for questioning. The incident follows a terrorist attack on tourists in Baisaran, near Pahalgam, prompting a heightened security presence in the region.
