Thu Apr 24 05:01:02 UTC 2025: ## India Expels Pakistani Diplomats, Suspends Indus Waters Treaty After Terror Attack

**NEW DELHI** – India has taken strong retaliatory measures against Pakistan following a terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, that killed 26 people. The attack prompted Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri to announce a series of diplomatic actions, including the expulsion of Pakistani military attaches and the suspension of the 1960 Indus Waters Treaty.

India also reduced the staff strength of both the Indian and Pakistani High Commissions to 30 personnel each by May 1st and revoked the SAARC visa exemption scheme for Pakistani nationals, giving those currently in India 48 hours to leave. The Pakistani defence, military, naval, and air advisors have been declared persona non grata and given one week to depart.

The strong actions follow accusations by former Pentagon official Michael Rubin, who directly blamed Pakistan’s army chief, General Asim Munir, for the attack, drawing a comparison between him and Osama Bin Laden. Rubin called for the US to formally designate Pakistan as a state sponsor of terror and Munir as a terrorist. He suggested the attack was not spontaneous, possibly timed to coincide with Vice President JD Vance’s visit to India.
