Tue Apr 22 19:18:15 UTC 2025: ## NGT Slams Gurugram and Faridabad for Waste Management Failures at Bandhwari Landfill

**New Delhi, April 23, 2025** – The National Green Tribunal (NGT) has sharply criticized the municipal corporations of Gurugram and Faridabad for their inadequate waste management practices at the Bandhwari landfill in Gurugram. In an order issued April 15th and published Tuesday, the NGT highlighted “gross deficiencies” in the handling of waste and the lack of a consistent plan for waste processing facilities.

The tribunal noted a significant increase in waste at the landfill, rising from 8.84 lakh metric tons (MT) on December 1st, 2024, to 11.32 lakh MT by March 31st, 2025. The NGT also pointed to the shifting plans of the Gurugram Municipal Corporation, initially proposing a waste-to-energy plant and now opting for a torrefied charcoal facility with a projected completion date of 2027.

The NGT has directed the Haryana State Pollution Control Board (HSPCB) to submit a detailed report within six weeks outlining the environmental compensation levied on and recovered from the two municipal corporations. The order underscores the urgent need for improved waste management strategies to address the growing environmental concerns at the Bandhwari landfill.
