**New Delhi, April 23, 2025** – The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has ordered a reduction in the security detail for Delhi’s Leader of the Opposition, Atishi. Atishi, who previously enjoyed ‘Z’ category security after serving as Chief Minister in 2024, will now receive ‘Y’ category protection.
The decision follows a review by Delhi Police’s security unit, which concluded that the threat assessment against the Kalkaji MLA did not warrant the higher level of protection. While the MHA initially advised against altering the security arrangements for both Atishi and AAP national convener Arvind Kejriwal (who retains ‘Z-plus’ security), it ultimately approved the downgrade for Atishi.
The ‘Y’ category security will consist of approximately 12 personnel, including two commandos, and removes certain privileges such as a pilot vehicle. The security levels for politicians are determined by threat assessments conducted by central intelligence and security agencies.
