**Jharsuguda, Odisha –** Two men accused of killing a father and son in Murshidabad, West Bengal, have been arrested in Odisha’s Jharsuguda district. The arrests, made on April 21st, 2025, followed a cross-state investigation by a West Bengal Special Task Force (STF).
Seiful Haque and Bani Israel were apprehended after a raid in the Bandhabahal area. Police seized a pistol loaded with 7.62 mm ammunition from Bani Israel. During the arrest, the suspects attempted to flee, prompting police to fire four warning shots.
Six additional individuals from Murshidabad, all working in the construction sector in Jharsuguda, were also detained and handed over to the West Bengal STF. They were allegedly involved in the violence that occurred in Jafrabad on April 12th, reportedly sparked by protests over the Waqf (Amendment) Act. The victims, Haragobindo Das (77) and his son Chandan Das (40), were killed during the protests, and their house was ransacked.
The two main suspects have been charged under the Arms Act, and the six others will be transported back to West Bengal to face charges related to the Murshidabad violence. The Jharsuguda Superintendent of Police, Parmar Smit Parshottamdas, confirmed the details of the arrests and subsequent transfers.
