Tue Apr 22 14:03:22 UTC 2025: ## Coimbatore TNSTC Bus Crew Face Fines for Illegal Air Horn Use

**COIMBATORE, April 22, 2025** – The Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation (TNSTC) in Coimbatore is taking action against its bus crew for using banned air horns. Following a surprise check by Transport Department and Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board officials, 21 buses, including several TNSTC city service vehicles, were found equipped with illegal air horns. These horns were confiscated, and the implicated crew members have been warned that they will be personally responsible for paying the associated fines.

Officials emphasized the Supreme Court’s ban on air horns, citing Section 190(2) of the Motor Vehicles Act (1988), which carries a ₹1,000 fine for a first offense and ₹2,000 for subsequent offenses. The use of air horns is considered a violation of road safety and noise pollution standards. While acknowledging the difficulty in enforcing noise regulations, officials confirmed that joint inspections by the Transport Department, TNPCB, and Police will continue to ensure compliance. The TNSTC has instructed its crew to cease using air horns immediately.
