Tue Apr 22 06:40:26 UTC 2025: ## Kerala Challenges Governor’s Bill Delay in Supreme Court
**New Delhi, April 22, 2025** – Following the Supreme Court’s ruling that deemed bills pending with the Tamil Nadu Governor as passed, the Kerala government has approached the Supreme Court to challenge the delay by its Governor in approving state assembly bills. The Kerala government argues that pending bills, including several university amendment bills and a cooperative societies amendment bill, should be considered passed due to the Governor’s inaction.
The Union government, however, contends that the Tamil Nadu judgment doesn’t apply to Kerala’s case, citing differing circumstances. The Supreme Court has scheduled a hearing for May 6th to consider Kerala’s plea for a ruling that the three-month timeframe for Governor assent, established in the Tamil Nadu case, should also apply to Kerala. The court will determine whether the Governor’s prolonged delay in clearing the bills constitutes an obstruction of the legislative process.
