Tue Apr 22 14:34:28 UTC 2025: ## Madurai Court Hands Down Stiff Sentences in Major Ganja Cases
**Madurai, April 22, 2025** – A Madurai court delivered significant sentences in two separate drug trafficking cases involving large quantities of ganja (cannabis). A. Karthik received a 10-year prison sentence and a ₹1 lakh fine for possessing 225 kg of ganja in 2017. Three co-accused were acquitted. In a separate case, five individuals from Dindigul were each sentenced to 12 years imprisonment and fined ₹1 lakh for possessing 215 kg of ganja in 2019. Three others were acquitted in this case as well. Both cases involved police seizures of the ganja. The sentences were handed down by the First Additional Special Court for Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act Cases.
