Tue Apr 22 13:17:16 UTC 2025: ## Congress Accuses BJP of Religious Polarization in Hyderabad Elections

HYDERABAD, INDIA – Telangana Transport and BC Welfare Minister Ponnam Prabhakar has accused the BJP of attempting to manipulate the upcoming Hyderabad Local Authorities Constituency (LAC) elections through religious polarization. He stated that the Congress party will file a complaint with the Election Commission against BJP leader Bandi Sanjay for allegedly threatening voters, claiming that those who don’t vote for the BJP are “not Hindus.”

Mr. Prabhakar condemned Mr. Sanjay’s statements as inflammatory and a violation of the election code of conduct. He criticized the BJP’s strategy of using provocative banners and asserted that the party is attempting to create a “Hindutva frenzy” despite lacking the numbers to win. He highlighted the MIM’s significant majority with 50 out of 112 votes, compared to the BJP and BRS’s 24 each, and the Congress’s 14.

Mr. Prabhakar also alleged an initial plan for a BJP-BRS alliance which was abandoned due to the lack of a guaranteed majority. He further condemned BJP MP Nishikant Dubey’s recent controversial remarks about the Constitution and the judiciary, calling for his suspension from the party. The Congress, he stated, is launching the “Jai Bapu, Jai Bhim, Jai Samvidhan” campaign to expose the BJP’s alleged hypocrisy and reaffirm its commitment to constitutional values. The Minister contrasted the Congress’s belief in democracy with what he described as the BJP’s belief in dictatorship.
