**Kanniyakumari, Tamil Nadu – April 22, 2025** – N. Thalavai Sundaram, Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) for Kanniyakumari, has called on Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw to upgrade the bi-weekly Thirukkural Superfast Express to a daily service. The train currently runs between Kanniyakumari and Hazrat Nizamuddin.
In a memorandum to the Minister, Mr. Sundaram highlighted the inadequate daily train connectivity between southern Tamil Nadu and New Delhi. While trains like the Tamil Nadu Express and Grand Trunk Express serve Chennai, passengers from districts like Kanniyakumari, Tirunelveli, Thoothukudi, Tenkasi, and Virudhunagar are forced to make inconvenient and costly connections, often with children and luggage.
Mr. Sundaram argued that the completion of track doubling between Chennai and Kanniyakumari, including pit line facilities, makes a daily Thirukkural Express feasible. He emphasized the high demand for the existing bi-weekly service and the substantial number of people from these districts working in the National Capital Region. He believes upgrading the Thirukkural Express to a daily service would significantly improve the travel experience and connectivity for these passengers.
