Tue Apr 22 11:26:37 UTC 2025: ## Rajya Sabha MP Sibal Rebukes Vice President Dhankhar Over Supreme Court Criticism

**New Delhi, April 22, 2025** – Rajya Sabha MP Kapil Sibal strongly criticized Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar’s recent statements questioning a Supreme Court order setting a three-month deadline for the President to decide on bills reserved by Governors. Sibal, a senior advocate, asserted on Tuesday that the Constitution, not Parliament or the Executive, holds supreme authority.

Dhankhar had previously argued that the judiciary overstepped its boundaries by dictating a timeline to the executive branch, likening the Supreme Court’s actions to firing a “nuclear missile” at democratic forces. He maintained that all pronouncements from constitutional authorities are guided by national interest.

Sibal countered these claims on X (formerly Twitter), stating that the Supreme Court’s interpretation of the Constitution aligns with India’s constitutional values and national interests. He emphasized the Court’s plenary power to interpret the Constitution and deliver justice, citing Article 142.

Sibal further criticized Dhankhar’s role as Rajya Sabha Chairman, arguing that the position requires neutrality between the ruling party and the opposition. He stated that the Chairman should not act as a spokesperson for any political party, as this diminishes the dignity of the office. This rebuke follows Sibal’s earlier condemnation of Dhankhar’s remarks as unconstitutional and unprecedented for a Rajya Sabha Chairman. The ongoing debate highlights a significant tension between the judiciary and the executive branches of the Indian government.
