**Bengaluru, India** – Olympic gold medalist Neeraj Chopra will host a prestigious one-day international javelin throw event in Bengaluru in May 2024, organized by JSW Sports. The event, initially planned for Panchkula, Haryana, was moved to Bengaluru’s Sree Kanteerava Stadium due to insufficient lighting at the original venue.
Chopra confirmed that he has extended invitations to a stellar lineup of international athletes, including his rival and friend, Pakistan’s Arshad Nadeem. While Nadeem has yet to confirm his participation, pending discussion with his coach, other top throwers have already accepted. Confirmed attendees include two-time world champion Anderson Peters, former Olympic champion Thomas Rohler, Olympic medalist and former world champion Yulius Yego, and current world leader Curtis Thompson. Several other leading athletes from Europe and elsewhere are also expected to compete. Three or four Indian athletes, including Rohit Yadav, will also participate alongside Chopra.
The change of venue to Bengaluru followed discussions between Chopra and Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. The Sree Kanteerava Stadium offers the necessary lighting (above 600 lux) for broadcast requirements, unlike the Tau Devi Lal Stadium in Panchkula. The event promises a thrilling competition featuring some of the world’s best javelin throwers.
