Mon Apr 21 17:03:16 UTC 2025: ## Karnataka MLC Demands Criminal Action Over Forced Removal of Sacred Threads from Students
**Mangaluru, Karnataka – April 22, 2025** – A Karnataka MLC, K. Pratap Simha Nayak, has demanded criminal charges against those responsible for forcing students to remove their sacred threads (“janivara”) before taking the Common Entrance Test (CET). Incidents have been reported in Shivamogga, Bidar, and Dharwad.
Nayak alleges the act was a deliberate attempt to target Hindu students and expresses concern that the Chief Minister, Siddaramaiah, has yet to comment on the matter four days after the incidents. He criticizes the government’s lack of response and relief for the affected students, stating the forced removal of the “janivara” has deeply hurt Hindu sentiments.
The MLC further accuses the Congress party and the INDIA alliance of pursuing an “anti-Hindu” agenda and “minority appeasement” tactics, suggesting this incident is a continuation of such policies. He predicts the Congress party will face electoral consequences in the upcoming Assembly elections, specifically losing all seats in Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts due to this issue. He insists that mere suspension of personnel involved is insufficient and demands criminal prosecution.
