Tue Apr 22 15:13:14 UTC 2025: ## Karnataka to Discuss Implementation of PM-KUSUM A Scheme with Central Government
**Bengaluru, April 22, 2025** – The Karnataka state government announced plans to initiate discussions with the central government regarding the implementation of the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Urja Suraksha evam Utthan Mahabhiyan (PM-KUSUM) A scheme. While the KUSUM-B (solar-powered agricultural pump sets) and KUSUM-C (solarisation of agricultural feeders) schemes are already underway in Karnataka, the KUSUM-A scheme, focused on local solar power generation and consumption, particularly for farmers and rural communities, has yet to be implemented.
Energy Minister K.J. George, speaking at an event in Chikkamagaluru district, stated that KUSUM-A would allow farmers and related organizations to establish solar power plants (500 kW to 2 MW capacity) within 5 kilometers of substations. Excess power generated could be sold to the government, providing farmers with additional income and addressing power shortages. The minister confirmed that the central government has approved the installation of 40,000 pump sets under the KUSUM-B scheme by December 2025. Discussions with Union Ministers are planned to facilitate the launch of KUSUM-A in Karnataka.
