Tue Apr 22 06:40:00 UTC 2025: ## Kenyan Brothers Make History: John Korir Wins Boston Marathon, Following in Wesley’s Footsteps
**BOSTON, MA** – John Korir etched his name into Boston Marathon history on Monday, securing a stunning victory in a time of 2 hours, 4 minutes, and 45 seconds. This win makes him the second fastest winner in the race’s history and, more significantly, the first brother to follow in the footsteps of a previous Boston Marathon champion. His older brother, Wesley Korir, triumphed in the race in 2012.
Korir’s journey to victory wasn’t without its challenges. He experienced a near-disaster at the start, stumbling and nearly losing his race bib, but recovered to deliver a powerful performance. He strategically surged ahead around the 20-mile mark, near Heartbreak Hill, creating a significant lead that he maintained to the finish line. His winning time was only 1 second slower than the unofficial time announced.
The race saw a thrilling battle for the remaining podium spots. Alphonce Felix Simbu of Tanzania and Cybrian Kotut of Kenya finished second and third respectively, edging out Conner Mantz of Provo, Utah, in a sprint to the finish. Last year’s champion, Sisay Lemma of Ethiopia, was forced to withdraw from the race due to a leg injury.
John Korir credited his brother’s advice and support for his success, stating that Wesley’s guidance to “believe in myself” proved instrumental. He also pledged to donate a portion of his $150,000 winnings to the Transcend Talent Academy, a school that provides education to aspiring runners from impoverished backgrounds – a cause also supported by his brother. The Korir brothers’ shared commitment to philanthropy adds another layer to their remarkable achievement, solidifying their legacy in the world of marathon running.
