**Mumbai, India – April 22, 2025** – Mumbai officially welcomed its state-of-the-art International Cruise Terminal (MICT) at Ballard Pier yesterday. Union Shipping Minister Sarbananda Sonowal commissioned the ₹556 crore facility, marking a significant milestone in India’s maritime tourism ambitions.
Located near iconic landmarks like the Gateway of India and Colaba, the MICT is designed to be a major tourist attraction and lifestyle destination. The six-year project boasts world-class infrastructure, capable of handling a daily passenger volume of 10,000-15,000, and accommodating up to five cruise ships simultaneously, each up to 300 meters long and with an 11-meter draft.
Developed under a public-private partnership between Ballard Pier Port Pvt Ltd and JM Baxi & Co, the 4.15 lakh sq ft terminal features 72 check-in and immigration counters, 22 elevators, and 10 escalators, alongside commercial spaces. While the terminal is fully operational, retail stores, restaurants, and sea-view cafes are still under development. The concession agreement for the terminal’s operation is set for 30 years.
The MICT represents a significant investment in India’s cruise tourism sector, aiming to establish Mumbai as a key player in the global cruise market.
