**Bengaluru, India** – A road rage incident involving an Indian Air Force officer and a software company employee has taken a dramatic turn after CCTV footage contradicted the officer’s initial account, leading to his arrest.
Wing Commander Shiladitya Bose had earlier released a video claiming he was assaulted by Vikas Kumar, a biker, after a minor traffic altercation. Bose alleged Kumar verbally abused him and his wife, Squadron Leader Madhumita Dutta, in Kannada and subsequently attacked him, leaving him with facial injuries. This video went viral, sparking public outrage and fueling concerns about potential language-based harassment.
However, a subsequently released CCTV video shows a different narrative. The footage depicts Bose assaulting Kumar, contradicting his claim of being the victim. Police have since confirmed the incident was a case of mutual road rage, dismissing Bose’s claims of a language-based dispute. The initial complaint filed by Dutta alleging grievous hurt has been superseded by an attempt to murder charge against Bose.
Kumar, who has been granted bail, released his own video statement, accusing Bose of filing a false complaint and expressing fears about job security. He denied any language-based provocation, stating his fluency in multiple languages including Kannada.
Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah intervened, ordering police action against Bose and condemning the incident. He emphasized that the incident did not reflect the welcoming nature of Karnataka’s culture.
The Air Force has acknowledged the incident, stating it is cooperating with local authorities in the investigation. The case continues to unfold, raising questions about the initial handling of the situation and highlighting the importance of verifying accounts in such incidents.
