Mon Apr 21 19:06:28 UTC 2025: ## Kochi Exports Organic Compost to Dubai, Marking Waste Management Success

**KOCHI, INDIA (April 22, 2025)** – The Kochi Corporation celebrated a significant milestone in its waste management program on Monday with the first export of organic compost from its Brahmapuram plant to Dubai. The compost, produced using an innovative Black Soldier Fly (BSF) larvae-based process, marks a remarkable turnaround for the plant, which was once plagued by environmental issues.

Mayor M. Anilkumar flagged off the consignment, highlighting the transformation of Brahmapuram from a site of environmental concern to a facility producing high-quality compost for global markets. He credited the success to collaborative efforts and a commitment to sustainable practices.

The compost is produced by Fabbco Bio Cycle Pvt Ltd, which processes 50 tonnes of Kochi’s food waste daily, generating 10 tonnes of compost through the BSF larvae system. This method significantly reduces processing time compared to traditional methods, a key factor in securing the Dubai contract with SSK Blending LLC for use in vertical farming.

Fabbco CEO P.V. Niyas emphasized the superior quality of the insect frass (insect excrement) produced, which was preferred by the Dubai company over standard compost. The company’s efficient 16-layer stacking system maximizes productivity within a limited space. The successful export signifies the potential of Kochi’s innovative waste management strategy as a model for other cities.
