Tue Apr 22 16:53:33 UTC 2025: ## UK Court Blocks Extradition of Indian Defence Consultant, Citing Tihar Jail Conditions
**New Delhi, April 23, 2025** – A UK court has denied India’s request to extradite Sanjay Bhandari, a defence consultant wanted on charges of tax evasion and money laundering, citing concerns about the conditions in Delhi’s Tihar Jail. The Enforcement Directorate (ED) revealed this information to a Delhi court on Tuesday.
Bhandari, whose name has also surfaced in an ED investigation involving Robert Vadra, argued that he would face “real risk” of violence and extortion in an Indian prison. The UK court accepted this argument in February, allowing his appeal against extradition.
The ED is currently pursuing a separate application to declare Bhandari a fugitive, with a hearing scheduled for May 3rd. Bhandari’s legal team maintains his stay in the UK is legitimate, given the court’s decision. The ED’s case against Bhandari and others continues.
