Mon Apr 21 22:50:00 UTC 2025: ## Chipotle to Expand into Mexico in 2026

**NEW YORK** – Chipotle Mexican Grill announced Monday that it will be expanding its international footprint into Mexico starting in early 2026. The fast-casual chain will partner with Alsea, S.A.B. de C.V., a major restaurant operator in Latin America and Europe, to launch its first Mexican restaurants.

This marks a significant step for Chipotle, which currently operates in six international markets: Canada, the U.K., France, Germany, Kuwait, and the UAE. The company believes Mexico’s familiarity with its ingredients and preference for fresh food make it a promising market. Alsea CEO Armando Torrado expressed confidence in the partnership, stating the company is “proud to work with an iconic brand like Chipotle.”

Chipotle’s Chief Business Development Officer, Nate Lawton, echoed this sentiment, emphasizing the belief that the chain’s “responsibly sourced, classically-cooked real food” will resonate with Mexican consumers. The partnership with Alsea will also facilitate exploration of further expansion opportunities in the region.

This announcement follows a similar agreement signed nearly two years ago with the Alshaya Group for expansion in the Middle East, resulting in the opening of five locations in Kuwait and the UAE. Chipotle currently operates over 3,700 restaurants globally, with the vast majority located in the United States. The company has ambitious long-term goals, aiming to reach 7,000 restaurants across North America. In 2025, Chipotle plans to accelerate growth in Canada and the Middle East, while continuing to develop its European presence.
