**Newport Beach, CA – April 21, 2025** – Chipotle Mexican Grill announced today it will expand into Mexico for the first time, partnering with leading Latin American restaurant operator Alsea. The first Chipotle restaurant in Mexico is slated to open by early 2026.
This marks a significant step in Chipotle’s international growth strategy. The company believes its focus on responsibly sourced ingredients will resonate with Mexican consumers, who are already familiar with many of the chain’s components. The partnership with Alsea will leverage the latter’s deep understanding of the Mexican market.
“We are confident that our responsibly sourced, classically-cooked real food will resonate with guests in Mexico,” said Nate Lawton, Chipotle’s Chief Business Development Officer. Armando Torrado, Alsea’s CEO, added, “We are proud to work with an iconic brand like Chipotle and help grow its international business.”
This Mexican expansion follows Chipotle’s July 2023 agreement with Alshaya Group to open restaurants in the Middle East, where several locations are already operating. Chipotle currently operates over 3,700 restaurants globally and aims to add between 315 and 345 more in 2025, working towards a long-term goal of 7,000 locations in the US and Canada. The company is actively seeking further international partnerships.
