Mon Apr 21 19:48:03 UTC 2025: **JNU Student Union Elections Suspended Amidst Violence Accusations**

NEW DELHI (April 22, 2025) – The Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) student union elections have been indefinitely suspended following allegations of violence and vandalism. The student-led Election Committee (EC) halted the process on Friday after incidents at their office, citing safety concerns.

While left-wing student organizations blame the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) for the violence, the ABVP counters these claims, accusing the left of attempting to sabotage the elections. Both sides continue to campaign, despite the uncertainty surrounding the election schedule.

The initial schedule called for School General Body meetings on Monday, polling on April 25th, and results on April 28th. However, with the EC yet to provide updates, these dates remain uncertain. The Left-Ambedkarite Unity Panel, an alliance between the Students’ Federation of India (SFI) and the Birsa Ambedkar Phule Students’ Association (BIRSA), has submitted a memorandum to the Dean of Students expressing concerns about the EC’s safety. The final list of candidates is also pending. Current JNUSU president Dhananjay stated that campaigning continues despite the lack of clarity on election dates.
