DHAKA, Bangladesh – Bangladesh has requested an Interpol red notice for ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and 11 others, according to a media report released Saturday. The request, filed by the National Central Bureau (NCB) of Bangladesh Police, comes in response to ongoing investigations and court proceedings alleging crimes against humanity and genocide.
Hasina, who has resided in India since fleeing Bangladesh in August 2024 following widespread protests, is accused of various offenses including corruption and crimes against humanity. Arrest warrants have been issued by Bangladesh’s International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) since August 2024, and the ICT Chief Prosecutor’s Office formally requested Interpol’s assistance in November.
An Interpol red notice would facilitate Hasina’s location and provisional arrest pending extradition. The interim government in Bangladesh has publicly stated its intention to secure Hasina’s return, even seeking international cooperation if necessary. The NCB confirmed the Interpol request, stating that such applications are standard procedure in connection with ongoing investigations and court cases.
