Mon Apr 21 05:05:01 UTC 2025: ## Karnataka CM Blames Center for Delays in Mahadayi River Projects

**Belagavi, Karnataka –** Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has accused the central government of delaying crucial water projects in the Mahadayi river basin, hindering agricultural development in the state. Speaking at an event distributing ₹400 crore worth of agricultural implements to farmers in Belagavi on April 20th, Siddaramaiah stated that Karnataka is ready to commence work immediately upon receiving the necessary clearances from the Union government.

The Chief Minister highlighted the lack of central cooperation on several key projects, including the Bhadra Upper irrigation Project, for which no funding has been received, and the stalled Mahadayi and Mekedatu projects. He emphasized the urgent need for these projects to address the challenges posed by reduced rainfall and dry land farming. The state government, he noted, is investing over ₹23,000 crore in irrigation projects to combat these issues.

Siddaramaiah also linked agricultural development to urban and rural growth, stating that an integrated development plan is underway to support farmers and improve their welfare. The government’s efforts include subsidised distribution of agricultural machinery and the Krishi Bhagya scheme for dry land farmers, which includes the construction of thousands of farm ponds to improve water conservation. The CM attributed the state’s current food self-sufficiency to these initiatives, enabling the distribution of 10 kg of foodgrains per person under the Anna Bhagya scheme. He further underscored the vital role of farmers in ensuring food security, alongside soldiers and teachers.
