**Prayagraj, April 21, 2025** – Samajwadi Party (SP) president Akhilesh Yadav has accused the BJP of using the recently concluded Maha Kumbh in Prayagraj for political gain, alleging a plan to project Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath as the prime ministerial candidate. Yadav claimed the event was mismanaged, citing instances of media interviews during the religious gathering and failures in drone and CCTV surveillance during a January stampede. He further alleged that the government provided inaccurate casualty figures and pressured victims’ families to alter death certificates.
Yadav also criticized the BJP’s Waqf (Amendment) Bill, accusing the party of using it to seize land, and condemned the government’s handling of demonetization and GST. He reiterated the INDIA alliance’s continued presence in Uttar Pradesh, promising to uproot the BJP in the 2027 assembly elections if his party comes to power. He pledged an investigation into the Maha Kumbh’s mismanagement, should the SP win. The SP leader also addressed a controversial statement made by SP MP Ramji Lal Suman, suggesting that history promoting superiority and inferiority should not be perpetuated.
