Mon Apr 21 07:32:57 UTC 2025: ## Madras High Court to Rule on ED’s TASMAC Raid

**Chennai, April 21, 2025** – The Madras High Court will deliver its judgment on Wednesday on the legality of a three-day Enforcement Directorate (ED) raid on the Tamil Nadu State Marketing Corporation (TASMAC) headquarters in March. The court heard arguments from the Tamil Nadu government, TASMAC, and the ED.

The state government, represented by Advocate General P.S. Raman, argued the ED’s raid, based on several FIRs against low-level TASMAC employees, was an overreach. Raman expressed concern that this could set a precedent for targeting other state-owned corporations, undermining the federal structure of India. He also accused the ED of human rights violations, alleging that female employees were detained beyond midnight.

The ED, represented by Additional Solicitor General S.V. Raju and Special Public Prosecutor N. Ramesh, denied the human rights allegations and stated the raid was justified by 46 FIRs registered under the Prevention of Corruption Act. They also criticized Tamil Nadu for not appointing a nodal officer to assist the ED, as required under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA). The court has reserved its judgment until Wednesday.
