Mon Apr 21 10:35:17 UTC 2025: ## Tamil Nadu Rejects Anti-Superstition Law: Minister Cites Constitutional Concerns

**Chennai, April 21, 2025** – The Tamil Nadu government has rejected calls for a special law to abolish superstitions in the state. Law Minister S. Ezhilan, who cited Article 51A(h) of the Constitution promoting scientific temper, Minister Regupathy explained that while the government supports individual freedoms, it cannot legislate against differing beliefs. He argued that one person’s superstition might be another’s religious practice, and a law attempting to differentiate would be unenforceable and potentially infringe on constitutional rights. The Minister emphasized the importance of respecting diverse beliefs and principles.
