**HOUGHTON & BARAGA COUNTIES, MI –** A flood warning remains in effect for low-lying areas along the Sturgeon River, from Pelkie to Chassell, with no estimated end time announced. Heavy rainfall and snowfall are expected to exacerbate the situation, keeping the river at or above bankfull for several days.
The Sturgeon River is currently nine inches above its banks in some locations, causing significant road closures and flooding. In Houghton County, Sturgeon River, Rajala, and Aho Roads are impassable. Baraga County is experiencing more widespread flooding, affecting Sturgeon, Halonen, Usitalo, Froberg, Tahtinen, Irwin, Oliver, and Shirley Roads.
Authorities are urging drivers to avoid flooded areas completely. Attempting to drive through standing water can be extremely dangerous. Motorists are advised to seek alternate routes if encountering flooded roads. The situation is expected to persist for at least the next few days due to continued inclement weather.
