**Bengaluru, April 21, 2025** – The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has successfully completed a second docking maneuver as part of its Space Docking Experiment (SpaDeX) mission, solidifying India’s position as the fourth nation to master this crucial space technology.
Union Minister of State for Science and Technology, Jitendra Singh, announced the successful docking of the SDX01 (Chaser) and SDX02 (Target) satellites on social media. The satellites were initially docked on January 16th, 2025, and undocked on March 13th before this latest successful docking. Further experiments are planned in the coming weeks.
The SpaDeX mission, launched on December 30, 2024, aims to develop and demonstrate the technology required for spacecraft rendezvous, docking, and undocking. This technology is critical for future ambitious projects, including sending Indian astronauts to the moon, returning lunar samples, and constructing an Indian space station. The mission also successfully demonstrated the transfer of electric power between the docked spacecraft, a key advancement for future in-space robotics and spacecraft operations. The successful completion of the SpaDeX mission places India alongside the US, Russia, and China as a nation capable of this complex space technology.
