**Chennai, April 21, 2025** – The Southern Railway has issued a statement defending the safety of Vande Bharat Express trains following a report in *The Hindu* raising concerns about their vulnerability to collisions with animals. The report, based on a Commission of Railway Safety assessment, highlighted the need for improved track fencing to prevent trespassing.
In response, the Southern Railway emphasized that Vande Bharat trains incorporate modern coupling designs to distribute impact energy, along with front-mounted cattle guards and the “Kavach” safety system. They also noted the trains’ extensive operational history, boasting millions of kilometers travelled without major incidents, showcasing their safety and efficiency.
The Railways’ statement comes as the national body proposes nationwide track fencing as a preventative measure against trespassing accidents. Over 3,500 kilometers of tracks have already been fenced as a pilot program.
