Mon Apr 21 14:17:28 UTC 2025: ## US Vice President’s Wife’s Family in India Remains Low-Key During Visit
**VISAKHAPATNAM, Andhra Pradesh (April 21, 2025)** – While US Vice President J.D. Vance and his wife Usha Chilukuri are on a four-day visit to India, the family of Ms. Chilukuri in Andhra Pradesh is maintaining a relatively quiet profile. This contrasts with the flurry of activity surrounding her 97-year-old grandmother, Professor Chilukuri Santhamma, following Mr. Vance’s nomination as the Republican candidate.
Prof. Santhamma, a retired Andhra University physics professor, continues to teach at Centurion University, Vizianagaram. She revealed that she learned of her granddaughter’s visit from a West Godavari Collectorate official who contacted her for information. Prof. Santhamma last saw Ms. Chilukuri as a child and hasn’t received any direct communication from her regarding the current visit. She stated that Ms. Chilukuri’s paternal aunt in Chennai would be a better contact for further information.
Despite her advanced age and undergoing knee replacement surgery two decades ago, Prof. Santhamma remains dedicated to her work, teaching three hours a week and pursuing research in spectroscopy, Vedic mathematics, and Bharadwaja Maharshi’s Vimana Sastram. She expressed her belief in the importance of Indians returning home to serve their country after pursuing education or work abroad. Her research, she declared, will only cease “when this breath stops.”
