Sun Apr 20 20:06:51 UTC 2025: ## Delhi Unveils Heat Action Plan to Combat Soaring Temperatures
**New Delhi, April 21, 2025** – With temperatures in Delhi exceeding 40 degrees Celsius, the BJP government is set to launch its annual heat action plan on Monday. The plan focuses on mitigating the effects of extreme heat through several key initiatives.
Key components of the plan include the deployment of “cool roof” technology at high-traffic locations like the Kashmere Gate and Anand Vihar Inter-State Bus Terminals (ISBTs) and the Delhi Secretariat. This involves applying reflective materials to rooftops to reduce indoor temperatures by 2-3 degrees Celsius. The UN Environment Programme and RMI India Foundation will partner with the government on the ISBT and Secretariat installations, respectively.
Further, the government will install digital cold water dispensers at the Secretariat and plans to expand this to other high-footfall areas and ISBTs. These dispensers feature water quality monitoring and real-time temperature displays, and can be remotely monitored for optimal water supply.
To address heatstroke cases, the government will establish “cool rooms” in Delhi government hospitals, similar to those already functioning at RML Hospital. These rooms will provide heatstroke victims with immediate cooling relief.
Finally, the plan includes the appointment of a Chief Heat Officer and district-level nodal officers to oversee and coordinate heat response measures across the city. The comprehensive plan aims to reduce electricity consumption, air pollution, and the impact of extreme heat on Delhi’s residents.
