**Kolkata, India** – The Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) has requested the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to ban commentators Harsha Bhogle and Simon Doull from covering matches at the Eden Gardens. The request follows comments made by Bhogle and Doull suggesting that the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) relocate due to dissatisfaction with the home pitch curator.
KKR captain Ajinkya Rahane has publicly expressed his desire for a more spin-friendly pitch to benefit the team’s spinners, but the wickets prepared have favored pace bowling, leading to high-scoring matches. The CAB maintains that the curator is adhering to BCCI guidelines, which prohibit franchises from dictating pitch conditions.
Doull, in a Cricbuzz discussion, stated that if the curator continues to disregard KKR’s preferences, the franchise should consider a change of venue. Bhogle echoed this sentiment.
The CAB, however, strongly supports the curator, claiming he has acted within regulations. A strongly worded letter to the BCCI urges the ban of Bhogle and/or Doull from Eden Gardens matches for the remainder of the IPL season. While the BCCI hasn’t officially responded, it’s reported that neither commentator is expected to cover Monday’s KKR vs. Gujarat Titans match at Eden Gardens. The upcoming IPL 2025 final is also scheduled at the venue. The situation highlights the growing tension between franchises and venue authorities over pitch preparation in the IPL.
