Sun Apr 20 20:40:00 UTC 2025: ## Guardians Defeat Pirates 10-7 Behind Naylor’s Big Night and Ortiz’s Strong Performance

**Pittsburgh, PA** – Bo Naylor’s breakout performance led the Cleveland Guardians to a 10-7 victory over the Pittsburgh Pirates Friday night. Naylor, who entered the game batting .162, collected three hits, including a solo home run and a crucial two-run double that propelled the Guardians to a 5-2 lead.

Luis L. Ortiz, pitching against his former team, earned his second consecutive win, striking out eight batters over five innings while allowing two runs, five hits, and three walks. His solid outing overshadowed a late-game rally by the Pirates, who scored five runs in the seventh and ninth innings.

The Guardians’ offense exploded for 14 hits, with Steven Kwan, Lane Thomas, Jose Ramirez, and Gabriel Arias each recording two hits. Consecutive two-run doubles by Johnkensy Noel and Arias in the seventh inning extended Cleveland’s lead to 10-2.

Despite the late rally, Emmanuel Clase secured his third save, striking out Jack Suwinski with runners on first and second to end the game.

Oneil Cruz continued his power surge for the Pirates, hitting a leadoff home run for the second consecutive game. Bryan Reynolds also homered and contributed three hits and two RBIs. However, Carmen Mlodzinski struggled on the mound for Pittsburgh, giving up five runs and nine hits in less than five innings.

The Pirates’ late-game offense was not enough to overcome Naylor’s impressive night and Ortiz’s solid pitching. The Guardians look to continue their winning streak tomorrow as they face the Pirates in the second game of their series.
