**Gaza City, April 20, 2025** – The death toll in the ongoing Gaza war has tragically surpassed 51,200, with the majority of victims being civilians, according to the Gaza Health Ministry – figures deemed reliable by the United Nations. Israeli airstrikes since Sunday morning alone have claimed at least 25 lives, including women and children, according to the Gaza Civil Defence agency.
The renewed Israeli offensive, which began on March 18th following a two-month ceasefire, has seen at least 1,827 deaths in Gaza since its resumption. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has vowed to continue the military operation until all hostages taken during the October 2023 Hamas attack are returned, rejecting calls for a ceasefire and troop withdrawal. He stated that the campaign is at a critical stage and requires continued patience and determination.
The October 2023 Hamas attack, which triggered this conflict, resulted in the deaths of 1,218 Israelis, according to AFP. Fifty-eight of the 251 individuals abducted during that attack remain hostages in Gaza.
The escalating violence comes as Palestinians displaced by Israeli raids in the West Bank struggle to find adequate shelter. The conflict continues to generate international concern and condemnation.
