HOUSTON, TX – Former Alabama Crimson Tide standout Irv Smith Jr. has signed a one-year contract with the Houston Texans, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported Friday. This marks a return to Houston for Smith, who spent the 2024 season with the team. The deal makes him the sixth former Alabama player on the Texans’ roster, joining John Metchie III, Cam Robinson, Will Anderson Jr., Christian Harris, and Henry To’oTo’o. The Texans are coached by former Alabama linebacker DeMeco Ryans.

Smith, a second-round pick in the 2019 NFL Draft, saw limited action in his first season with Houston, appearing in just five games and recording only one reception for two yards during the playoffs. Throughout his NFL career with the Texans, Minnesota Vikings, and Cincinnati Bengals, he has amassed 109 receptions for 973 yards and 10 touchdowns in 54 games.
