Mon Apr 21 13:53:07 UTC 2025: ## Andhra Pradesh Embraces Drone Technology for Agriculture
**Nandyal, Andhra Pradesh –** Andhra Pradesh is leading the nation in the adoption of drone technology for agriculture, according to Roads and Buildings Minister B.C. Janardhan Reddy. Speaking at a farm equipment distribution event in Nandyal district on Monday, Reddy highlighted the technology’s transformative impact on farming, reducing costs and increasing efficiency.
Reddy announced the development of a 300-acre drone hub in Orvakal, a project envisioned by Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu. The strategic location, near Kurnool airport, was chosen to facilitate the growth of drone technology centers in the district.
Farmers present shared their positive experiences, reporting significant reductions in pesticide and fertilizer usage thanks to precise drone application. One farmer noted a 40% decrease in pesticide consumption per acre. Another highlighted the speed and efficiency of drones, covering 10 acres in just three hours.
Reddy criticized the previous Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy government for neglecting agricultural mechanization and irregularities in farm equipment distribution, claiming the halting of tractor subsidies between 2014-2019 disrupted cultivation. An inquiry has been launched into these alleged irregularities. The current government is actively promoting drone technology as a key component of its agricultural modernization strategy.
