Mon Apr 21 03:53:01 UTC 2025: **Delhi Airport Temporarily Suspends Runway Upgrade, Reopening Planned for Early May**

NEW DELHI, April 21, 2025 – Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA), operated by Delhi International Airport Ltd. (DIAL), announced the temporary suspension of upgrade works on runway RW 10/28 to alleviate flight delays caused by reduced capacity. The closure, implemented this week for maintenance, has lowered the airport’s arrival capacity from 45 aircraft per hour to 31-32.

The suspension, effective immediately, will see the runway reopen in the first week of May. The remaining upgrade activities, deemed critical for the upcoming winter season, have been postponed for approximately one month. This decision follows several days of implementing Air Traffic Flow Management (ATFM) measures to mitigate delays stemming from the reduced runway capacity and the impact of easterly winds. While one side of RW 10/28 lacks CAT III compliance for low-visibility operations, DIAL CEO Videh Kumar Jaipuriar previously stated that complete maintenance was scheduled for September. The airport continues to utilize its three other runways.
