Mon Apr 21 08:18:53 UTC 2025: ## Calcutta High Court to Hear Appeals in West Bengal Teacher Job Termination Case

**Kolkata, April 21, 2025** – The Calcutta High Court will hear appeals challenging the termination of approximately 32,000 primary school teachers on April 28th. A division bench, comprising Justices Tapabrata Chakraborty and Partha Sarathi Chatterjee, will preside over the hearing.

The appeals were assigned by Chief Justice T.S. Sivagnanam after a previous bench released the case due to a personal reason cited by one of the justices. The appeals are filed by the West Bengal Board of Primary Education and some of the affected teachers themselves.

The initial termination order was issued in May 2023 by a single bench, which ruled that the appointments of around 32,000 teachers were invalid because they had not completed their teacher training course prior to recruitment in 2016. A subsequent division bench stayed this order, pending the outcome of these appeals. The case involves a selection process based on the 2014 Teacher Eligibility Test (TET). The hearing on April 28th will determine the fate of these teachers’ employment.
