**Kathmandu, Nepal** – Nepal’s former King Gyanendra Shah faces potential arrest for his involvement in pro-monarchy protests, according to a leading member of the Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist-Centre). Matrika Prasad Yadav, the party’s Deputy General Secretary, stated on Monday that supporting these protests, which advocate for the restoration of the monarchy and a Hindu state, constitutes a violation of Nepal’s constitution.
Yadav accused the former king of actively supporting the anti-constitutional movement, warning that arrest is imminent should the Maoist-Centre regain power. He downplayed the size of the pro-monarchy movement, characterizing it as a small but highly visible counterpoint to Nepal’s nearly two-decade-long democratic government.
The Nepali official also leveled accusations against Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, alleging his interference in Nepal’s internal affairs and support for the pro-monarchy movement. Yadav challenged Adityanath to implement his vision of a Hindu Rashtra within India before attempting to impose it on Nepal.
Furthermore, Yadav criticized Nepal’s current Prime Minister, K.P. Sharma Oli, for concentrating power within his own hands, transforming the Communist Party of Nepal (UML) into a personality-centric organization and deviating from its ideological roots. He described this trend as a “personality cult syndrome” affecting major political parties worldwide.
