Sun Apr 20 06:12:25 UTC 2025: **Navi Mumbai Police Busts Medical College Admission Scam; Two Victims Lose ₹77.61 Lakh**

NAVI MUMBAI, April 20, 2025 – Navi Mumbai police have arrested six individuals in connection with a major admission scam involving fraudulent medical college placements. Two victims, one from Chhattisgarh and another from Bengaluru, lost a combined ₹77.61 lakh after being promised postgraduate medical seats at a Nerul-based medical college under a management quota.

The Chhattisgarh victim, a 59-year-old man, paid ₹1.27 crore between May 2022 and December 2023 to secure a General Surgery seat for his daughter. After discovering the admission documents were forged, he received a partial refund of ₹85 lakh but was left with an outstanding loss of ₹42 lakh.

In a separate incident, a 54-year-old Bengaluru resident paid ₹35.61 lakh for an MD Anesthesia seat for his nephew, also receiving fraudulent documents. Although initially paying ₹50 lakh, he received only a ₹4.39 lakh refund.

Nerul police have registered two FIRs against the six accused under various sections of the Indian Penal Code, including charges of cheating, criminal breach of trust, and forgery. Investigations are underway to ascertain the full extent of the fraud and trace the financial transactions. No arrests have been made yet. Police are also investigating whether more individuals were victims of this scam.
