Sun Apr 20 13:06:43 UTC 2025: ## Mysuru Railway Division Nears Completion of Electrification Project
**Mysuru, Karnataka, April 20, 2025** – Over 94% of track electrification is complete in the Mysuru railway division, significantly boosting operational efficiency and environmental sustainability. The project, part of Indian Railways’ nationwide electrification drive, aims to reduce reliance on fossil fuels and decrease carbon emissions.
According to Ravishankar, senior divisional electrical engineer (Traction), Mysuru division, 1,621 km of the division’s 1,722 km track length is now electrified. While the majority of the work is finished, a 32-km stretch between Amaravathi and Kuttur remains, with completion expected by the end of 2026. Challenges in the ghat section, including difficult terrain and accessibility issues during monsoon season, are being addressed.
A small 1.5-km section near Mysuru airport remains pending due to concerns about electromagnetic interference with aircraft navigation systems. The railway is working with the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) to find a solution, including proposing shielding to mitigate any potential disturbances. Once completed, the entire Mysuru-Nanjangud stretch will be electrified. The project’s success underscores India’s commitment to a greener and more efficient railway system.
