Sun Apr 20 01:00:38 UTC 2025: **Bengaluru Residents Transform Garbage-Strewed Lane After 33 Years**

**Bengaluru, April 20, 2025** – A 33-year-old problem in Richmond Town’s Leonard Lane has been solved thanks to a collaborative clean-up effort. A joint initiative between civic action group The Ugly Indians (TUI), residents, BBMP workers, local traffic police, and the Citizens’ Welfare Association has transformed a previously garbage-filled and neglected area into a walkable lane.

The clean-up involved removing illegally parked vehicles, clearing debris, pest control, tree trimming, and painting walls. The event was designed to be festive, including music and ice cream stalls, with children actively participating in the beautification efforts.

TUI, known for its hands-on approach to civic issues, coordinated with the BBMP to ensure the long-term upkeep of the lane. The group’s focus, according to a TUI spokesperson, is on empowering citizens to take action rather than simply complain. Kavitha Hemant Rao of the Citizens’ Welfare Association stated that a local group has formed to maintain the cleanliness and ensure regular garbage collection. The successful transformation of Leonard Lane serves as a testament to the power of community collaboration in addressing long-standing civic issues.
