**Mysuru, Karnataka, April 20, 2025** – Environmental activists from Team Mysuru staged a protest on Sunday against the felling of 40 trees on Hyder Ali Road to accommodate road widening. The group, who created an artwork to symbolize their anger, blamed the Forest Department for the loss of the mature trees.
Protesters held placards with slogans such as “Protecting trees and plants is everyone’s responsibility” and “Green is life,” arguing that the trees could have been saved despite the road widening project. Gokul Govardhan of Team Mysuru stated that while they are not against development, it should be environmentally conscious. He criticized officials for a perceived lack of concern for the environment.
Chandrashekhar from Aditya Hospital echoed these sentiments, asserting that modern technology could have preserved the trees and criticizing officials for yielding to pressure. Kiran Jairam Gowda highlighted Team Mysuru’s 11-year commitment to planting and nurturing trees in the city, questioning the motivation to continue their efforts in the face of such destruction. The activists also pointed out inconsistencies in the urgency shown for road widening projects across the city.
