**Hyderabad, April 20, 2025** – The Osmania University Arts College building in Hyderabad has achieved a significant milestone, becoming the third structure in India to receive trademark registration for its exterior design. Built in 1939, the building is a prominent symbol of Hyderabad’s architectural and educational heritage. This trademark grants the university exclusive rights to its image for commercial use, preventing unauthorized replication and branding.
Trademark agent Subhajit Saha, who facilitated the application, confirmed the rarity of this achievement, noting that only the Taj Mahal Palace Hotel and the Bombay Stock Exchange previously received similar recognition. Saha suggested that other iconic structures consider this protective measure to safeguard their unique designs.
G.B. Reddy, Head of the IPR Chair at Osmania University, emphasized the trademark’s role in combating “copycat architecture,” a growing trend of imitating established designs. The registration serves as a significant step in protecting India’s architectural legacy.
