**Hyderabad, April 20, 2025** – All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) president Asaduddin Owaisi has strongly criticized the amended Waqf Act, calling the inclusion of non-Muslim members on State Waqf Boards a form of “reservation for the Hindu community.” Speaking after a large protest meeting organized by the All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB), Owaisi highlighted concerns about Section 14 of the amended bill. He argued that the bill’s stipulations for the qualifications of Muslim members, while leaving non-Muslim qualifications unspecified, unfairly disadvantages the Muslim community.
Owaisi further expressed alarm that the amendments could lead to non-Muslim chairpersons and a majority of non-Muslim members on Waqf Boards, a violation of Article 26, which guarantees the right to manage religious affairs. He also criticized the lack of clarity on conflicts between Waqf laws and other legislation, stating that the current wording would allow other laws to supersede Waqf laws. Additional concerns raised included the arbitrary six-month deadline for filing documents and the requirement for waqf donors to prove five years of practicing Islam. The AIMIM leader views these amendments as detrimental to the protection of Waqf properties.
