Sun Apr 20 15:20:00 UTC 2025: ## Six Years After Miraculous Mall of America Fall, Boy Thrives

**Minneapolis, MN –** Landen Hoffman, now 11, is thriving six years after a stranger threw him 40 feet from a third-floor Mall of America balcony. The April 12, 2019, attack left the then-five-year-old with multiple broken bones, severe head trauma, and a life-threatening injury to his vena cava.

His mother, Kari Hoffman, described the ordeal and her son’s remarkable recovery in a recent interview and new book, “Miracle at the Mall.” Landen endured over a dozen surgeries and a long rehabilitation process, which included a second leg break that, ironically, revealed a near-fatal compromise to his vena cava. While the injuries impacted his personality, Landen has regained his joyful spirit. He doesn’t remember the fall itself, only his hospital stay, which his mother ensured was positive.

Emmanuel Aranda, the perpetrator, is serving a 19-year sentence. He reportedly attacked Landen after a woman rejected his advances. While Kari initially avoided learning about the legal proceedings, she is aware of Aranda’s potential parole in seven years but states she is primarily concerned with ensuring he poses no further threat.

Landen’s recovery has been a testament to his resilience and his mother’s unwavering faith. He actively shares his story, emphasizing his belief that God saved him. The family, including Landen’s siblings, celebrate his recovery and cherishes the positive memories made since the attack. While the Mall of America remains a place Kari wishes to avoid, the family chooses to focus on the miracle of Landen’s survival and his joyful return to normalcy. The book, “Miracle at the Mall,” details their journey.
