Sun Apr 20 07:20:19 UTC 2025: ## Tamil Nadu Minister Reviews Progress of Major Drinking Water Projects

**Cuddalore, Tamil Nadu – April 20, 2025** – Tamil Nadu’s Minister for Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, M.R.K. Panneerselvam, conducted a review of significant drinking water projects underway in Chidambaram on Saturday. These projects, undertaken by the Municipal Administration and Water Supply Department, are valued at ₹265.59 crore and are funded under Amrut 2.0 and the Jal Jeevan Mission.

The most substantial project, a combined drinking water scheme costing ₹255.64 crore, will provide water to Chidambaram municipality, Annamalai Nagar Town Panchayat, and 36 settlements across ten village panchayats. Drawing water from the Kollidam River, this scheme is 71% complete and will benefit 127,566 people. The minister confirmed its imminent commissioning.

The project incorporates three existing ground-level tanks and five overhead tanks, with two more under construction. Pipeline installation is progressing, with 47 km laid of a planned 61 km. Distribution of service connections has commenced, aiming to provide 135 liters of water per person per day. Stormwater drainage work is also underway.

The review meeting was attended by Collector Sibi Adhithya Senthil Kumar and other officials.
